The decaying walls of the Indiana State Sanatorium hold the echoes of thousands of lost souls. For decades, this massive complex was a final stop for those battling the White Plague. Today, it stands as one of the most intensely active paranormal hotspots in America—and the spirits inside are waiting for you.
We invite you to step past the rusted gates for a true, unrestricted overnight investigation. This isn't a passive history tour. You will navigate the pitch-black surgery suites, walk the claustrophobic subterranean steam tunnels, and deploy your equipment in the heavy, oppressive silence of the old wards.
Listen closely to the shadows. The entities of the sanatorium are waiting to communicate—if you have the nerve to answer.
In 1907, a self-sustaining fortress was constructed deep in the Indiana woods to fight a losing battle against the "White Plague"—Tuberculosis. The Indiana State Sanatorium was a world unto itself, complete with its own coal mine, power plant, and bakery. It was designed to keep the sick completely isolated from the rest of humanity.
The "cure" was brutal: patients were forced onto open-air porches in the freezing Indiana winters, fighting for every single breath. For thousands, this isolated castle was their final stop.
The tragedy didn't stop there. In 1976, the site reopened as a private mental hospital and nursing home, a dark era plagued by lawsuits, patient neglect, and allegations of malpractice.
Then, in 2011, the doors were abruptly chained shut. The facility was completely abandoned in a panic. Beds were left unmade, medical equipment sat in the dark, and personal suitcases were left scattered on the floor. It is a massive, decaying time capsule of human suffering.
If the five stories of Adams Hall don't break you, the underbelly of the campus will. Miles of pitch-black steam tunnels snake beneath the property, used to transport supplies—and corpses—hidden from the eyes of other patients.
Inside these tunnels, the darkness feels heavy and physical. Flashlight beams seem to get swallowed by the shadows, and investigators consistently report the sound of something heavy dragging itself through the muck just behind them.
With thousands of documented deaths across the 200-acre campus, the "San" is a nuclear reactor of paranormal activity. You are walking directly into the territory of:
